Jinnah remembered by Inquilab Mancha with respect and love

The Inquilab Mancha, an organisation founded by Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, has remembered Muhammad Ali Jinnah with “respect and love.” Jinnah played an important role in the history of the partition of the subcontinent and took a position in favour of making Urdu the sole state language of Pakistan.

The organisation remembered Jinnah by posting a black and white photograph of him on its Facebook page on Friday night (September 11).

September 11 was the death anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan and the country’s first governor general. In its post, the organisation described him as “one of the prominent politicians of the subcontinent, an advocate of the two-nation theory, one of the visionaries of the state of Pakistan and the first governor general of Pakistan.”

In the message accompanying the post, it said, “On the death anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, one of the prominent politicians of the subcontinent, an advocate of the two-nation theory, one of the visionaries of the state of Pakistan and the first governor general of Pakistan, we remember him with deep respect and love.”

Inquilab Mancha’s post

The post also mentioned Jinnah’s dates of birth and death. Jinnah was born in Karachi on December 25, 1876, and died on September 11, 1948. After the establishment of Pakistan, he served as the country’s first governor general.

However, an important chapter in the history of Bangladesh is also linked to Jinnah’s political history. During his visit to Dhaka in March 1948, he spoke in favour of making Urdu the sole state language of Pakistan. His position triggered reactions among students and various sections of society in what was then East Bengal. The movement that later developed around language rights eventually turned into the historic Language Movement of 1952. People were martyred for their language rights.

Six days before remembering Jinnah, the same page had also remembered another historical figure of the country, Bir Sreshtho Shaheed Nur Mohammad Sheikh. In that post, Nur Mohammad Sheikh was remembered with “endless prayers and love.”

The Inquilab Mancha’s post has drawn mixed reactions on social media.
