Pakistan aerial firing wounds 94, police arrest 30

Rescue officials said celebratory aerial firing during Independence Day festivities across Karachi, Pakistan left at least 94 people injured and one woman dead on Friday.
A stray bullet caused the woman’s death during a massive wave of gunfire that swept the city. An Edhi Foundation spokesperson reported that the wounded include 10 women, 17 children, and 59 men.
Emergency teams transported the victims to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Civil Hospital, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Providing a detailed breakdown, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital officials noted they received 24 patients, including one woman, four children, and 19 men.
Jinnah Hospital treated 35 people, among them four women, three children, and 28 men, while the Civil Hospital trauma center managed 26 patients, including four women, 10 children, and 12 men.
Reports of firing incidents emerged from numerous areas, including Lyari, Saddar, Korangi, Malir, Azizabad, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulbahar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Orangi Town, Jamshed Quarters, and Defence.
As a result, police arrested 30 suspects from the city’s eastern, western, and central districts. Authorities conducted these operations in Hyderi Market, Bilal Colony, Liaquatabad, New Karachi, Taimuria, Azizabad, Joharabad, and Gulbahar, as well as within the jurisdictions of Khwaja Ajmer Nagri, Samanabad, Rizvia Society, and Sir Syed police stations.
Law enforcement recovered various weapons from the detainees. In Gulshan-e-Iqbal, police apprehended a security guard allegedly participating in the aerial firing and seized his firearm.
According to the SSP West, officers also arrested two suspects in Orangi Town and Iqbal Market for their alleged involvement in the illegal celebrations.
