An Air Astra flight bound for Chattogram made an emergency landing at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after one of its engines failed shortly after takeoff. The incident occurred on Sunday morning. However, all 70 passengers on board are safe and unharmed.
Imran Asif, Chief Executive Officer of Air Astra, told Agamir Samay, "There was an issue with one of the aircraft's engines. So it returned and landed safely. Later, we arranged another aircraft and transported all 70 passengers to their destination."
He said a sensor on one engine was not functioning correctly. The affected aircraft has since been repaired and has completed a test flight.
The Air Astra ATR 72-600 aircraft departed from Dhaka for Chattogram around 12:00 PM. Within just two to three minutes of takeoff, the engine malfunction was detected. At that point, as a precautionary measure, the pilot made the immediate decision to return to Dhaka. He was able to land the aircraft safely.
On Friday, a Novoair flight from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after having a mechanical fault shortly after takeoff. The aircraft circled in the air for about 40 to 45 minutes before landing safely, as its landing gear failed to retract properly. The flight was carrying Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir.
