Mobile court fines 2 for hoarding fertilizer in Kurigram

A mobile court fined two businessmen a total of Tk 4,05,000 on charges of creating an artificial crisis by illegally stockpiling fertilizer during separate operations in Bhurungamari, Kurigram.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Amrita Deb Nath confirmed the matter on Wednesday. The fined individuals are Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Khokon and Rofiqul Islam.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdul Jabbar said based on secret information, they conducted an operation at a brick kiln named M/S Khokon Traders in the Kurarpar area and seized 16 sacks of Urea and 7 sacks of DAP fertilizer. The mobile court fined Shafiqul Tk 4,00,000.
Jabbar added that they conducted another drive at a pesticide shop named M/S Rofiq Traders in the same market and seized 9 sacks of MOP fertilizer. The court fined Rofiqul Tk 5,000.
UNO Amrita noted, “There is no shortage of fertilizer in the upazila. Such operations will continue to prevent the artificial crisis and black-market sales of fertilizer during the agricultural season.”
