DB police in jail to interrogate accused in Rangpur quadruple murder

A team of Detective Branch (DB) police is at Rangpur Central Jail to interrogate two suspects arrested in connection with the killing of four members of a family including teacher Ganapati Chakraborty.
The DB team entered the jail at 11:45 am Tuesday.
DB Police Inspector and case investigation officer Jinnat Ali confirmed the matter.
He said police had sought a three-day remand to interrogate the arrested Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das. However, considering their statements recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and the appointment of a new investigation officer among other matters the court allowed police to interrogate them at the jail gate for three hours each day for two days.
Judge Md. Rafiqul Islam of the Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court issued the order Monday afternoon.
On the night of August 22 police recovered the bodies of retired Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty his wife daughter and son from their home in the Machuapara area of Rangpur city. Mugdha Das and Siddhartha Das who live in the same area were arrested in connection with the incident.
Gopinath Chakraborty elder brother of the deceased Ganapati Chakraborty filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station. Police said the two arrested suspects confessed to the killings in their statements recorded under Section 164 before the court. The case is currently being investigated by the DB.
