Heavy rain has begun in several areas of the capital. On Monday, as the day progressed, thick dark clouds covered the sky over Dhaka. Around 11:30 a.m., heavy showers started in different parts of the city, accompanied by gusty winds. The rain brought some relief from the recent humid heat, offering comfort to city residents.
However, the downpour also caused difficulties for homebound Eid travellers. Selim Hossain, who was traveling from Kamalapur to Narayanganj, said he faced severe inconvenience due to the rain.
“I left home with extra time in hand, but it started raining while I was on my way from Gulistan. I had to wait a long time to change buses,” he said. “By the time I reached near the station, the train departure time was approaching. I had to come partially drenched by rickshaw amid all the hassle.”
Another passenger, Jahidur, who was traveling from Kawran Bazar to Gulistan, said he was forced to go out in the rain due to concerns about missing his bus to Faridpur. “I already bought the ticket, so I had no choice but to leave in the rain. Now I’ll have to travel soaked,” he said.
Despite the inconvenience, many city dwellers expressed relief after several days of oppressive heat.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the rain may continue intermittently throughout the day in different parts of the capital, with temperatures likely to drop slightly.
The weather office said a trough of low pressure extends from West Bengal to the northern Bay of Bengal, increasing the chances of rain and thunderstorms across the country.
In the 24-hour forecast, the department said that many areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions may experience rain or thundershowers. Some areas of Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, along with a few places in Khulna and Barishal, may also see temporary gusty winds and rainfall.
It also warned of moderate to very heavy rainfall in some parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet.
Despite the rain, mild heatwave conditions are still continuing in several regions. The weather office said that a mild heatwave is currently sweeping over Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, and Patuakhali, as well as parts of Khulna division, and may continue for some time.
