Prime Minister Orders Rehabilitation of Evicted Vendors

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the swift rehabilitation of hawkers who were recently evicted from the streets of the capital, Dhaka.
The Prime Minister issued this directive during a meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office on Saturday afternoon. He instructed the relevant authorities to take the necessary steps to implement this order.
An official who attended the meeting said the Prime Minister has ordered the relevant ministries and institutions to work in coordination to quickly identify alternative locations. The evicted hawkers are to be rehabilitated in areas where they can conduct their business comfortably and with encouragement.
"Hawkers will be issued identity cards through a registration process to ensure their activities are managed in an orderly manner. Additionally, the Prime Minister emphasized taking necessary measures to reduce traffic congestion on roads during the start and end times of school and college classes," the official added.
Recently, several hundred shops were evicted from the streets in various areas, including Mirpur-1 under Dhaka North City Corporation, and Motijheel, Baitul Mukarram, Purana Paltan, and Gulistan under Dhaka South City Corporation.
Senior officials from the Local Government Division, Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) were present at the meeting.
