After days of intense heat and unbearable humidity, a spell of rain brought some relief to the residents of the capital. On Saturday afternoon, light to moderate rainfall occurred in various areas of Dhaka. Following a long period of unbearable heat, the cool breeze accompanying the rain helped city dwellers feel some comfort. However, the brief shower did not completely reduce the intensity of the heat.
In the afternoon, rain fell in several areas of the capital, including Banglamotor, Karwan Bazaar, Shahbagh, Tejgaon, and Moghbazar. At the start of the rain, many pedestrians and motorcyclists were seen rushing to find shelter. Temporary traffic jams were also created in some places. But after just a few minutes of rain, smiles of relief appeared on many faces.
Over the past few days, high temperatures and humidity in the capital had made life quite uncomfortable. Particularly, workers laboring under the open sky and office-goers were suffering greatly. Although the rain brought some coolness to the environment, meteorologists say it may take a little more time for the heat to subside completely.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has reported that storms with winds up to 60 kilometers per hour may sweep over eight districts of the country, including Dhaka. At the same time, rain or thundershowers are also possible. River ports in the affected areas have been asked to display warning signals.
According to a Met Office bulletin, temporary gusty or stormy winds blowing from the west or northwest at speeds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour may sweep over the districts of Dhaka, Faridpur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Tangail, Mymensingh, and Sylhet. There is also a possibility of rain accompanied by thunderstorms during this time.
Meteorologists have said that due to the influence of the seasonal monsoon, rainfall may continue in various parts of the country over the next few days. This could lead to a slight drop in temperature and provide temporary relief to people from the ongoing heat.
