Forest dept recovers 24 monitor lizards, detains woman

Forest Department recovered 24 monitor lizards and detained a woman in Khagrachari on Wednesday
Range Officer Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the matter. The detained woman was identified as Premrachho Marma, 47.
Mosharraf said the raid was conducted based on secret information. During the search of five sacks, officials recovered 24 monitor lizards, with 14 of them found dead. The 10 monitor lizards were released into the Alutila forests, while the dead ones were buried underground.
Premrachho added that she had brought the monitor lizards from Baroiyar Hat, Chattogram to sell.
Khagrachari Divisional Forest Officer Md Farid Miya said legal action will be taken against the woman under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act.
