The government has cut prices of LPG at the consumer end. The price of a 12-kg cylinder has been cut by Tk 55, from Tk 1,940 to Tk 1,885. Additionally, the price of autogas (used in vehicles) has been reduced by Tk 2.59 per liter to Tk 86.93. Prices for other cylinder LPG have also been reduced proportionally.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new prices on Tuesday.
Last month, LPG prices remained unchanged in the domestic market. However, in April, LPG prices were adjusted twice. On April 2, the price of a 12-kg cylinder was increased by Tk 387 to Tk 1,728. Then on April 19, BERC raised the price again by Tk 212 to Tk 1,940.
The commission said that the price adjustment was made considering the Contract Price (CP) of propane and butane announced by Saudi Aramco for June, import costs, freight charges, trader premiums, and the dollar exchange rate. For this month, the CP for propane has been set at $760 per ton and for butane at $820 per ton. The average CP stands at $799 per ton.
While private sector LPG prices have changed, state-owned LPG prices have remained unchanged as usual. This time, the price of a 12.5-kg cylinder of government LPG has been kept at the previous rate of Tk 776.93.
The commission warned that LPG or autogas cannot be sold at any level at a price higher than the fixed rate. Any violation will result in legal action against those responsible.
