Bus fare increased by 11 paisa per kilometer

Bus fares have been increased by 11 paisa per kilometer. However, the minimum fare remains unchanged at 10 TK.

The government has adjusted the fares for inter-district buses as well as those operating in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas. Sheikh Rabiul Alam, the Minister for Road, Railway, and Water Transport, said this decision was made following an increase in fuel prices. The Minister said this information during a meeting at the Secretariat's Road Transport and Highways Division conference room on Thursday afternoon.

The new fare structure is effective starting today.

In Dhaka and Chattogram, the bus fare has risen from Tk 2.42 TK to Tk 2.53 per kilometer. For inter-district buses, the rate has increased from TK 2.12 to Tk 2.23 per kilometer. Additionally, in areas under the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), the fare moved from TK2.32 to TK 2.43 per kilometer. Despite these changes, the minimum fare stays at Tk10.

Previously, the fare re-fixation committee led by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) had proposed an increase of 22 paisa per kilometer. The government ultimately decided on an 11-paisa hike based on that proposal.

The Minister also clarified that there has been no decision regarding a fare hike for trains or launches, and the matter is not currently under government consideration.
