The police uniform is set to be changed by the government. Home Affairs Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed informed that the existing shirt will remain unchanged, while the trousers will now be khaki in colour.
He shared the information while speaking to journalists on Monday after a meeting of the National Committee on Coordination, Management, and Law and Order related to forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (Rohingya), held at the Secretariat.
According to him, there has been dissatisfaction among field-level police personnel regarding the current uniform. It has not been widely accepted and is also considered less practical. The change has been initiated based on these observations.
The adviser said the existing shirt will be retained in consideration of tradition and practicality. However, khaki trousers have been selected to ensure a more acceptable and functional uniform design. The decision has been taken in consultation with the police force.
He also noted that it will take some time to implement the new uniform, as it involves production and supply of fabric along with other preparatory arrangements. Although an official notification has not yet been issued, the policy decision has already been finalized.
Responding to a question about a journalist being barred from traveling abroad, the adviser said the matter would be investigated.
