The Indian government will resume issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens from June 28, nearly two years after the service was suspended.
The announcement was made on Thursday by India's newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, after visiting the Indian Visa Application Center in Dhaka.
“Bangladeshi citizens will once again be able to apply for tourist visas starting June 28,” Trivedi told reporters. “Initially, applications will be accepted through five visa application centers.”
He said India was pleased to restore regular visa processing for tourists.
“We are happy to resume normal visa application services for tourist visas,” he said. “On humanitarian grounds, we will continue to facilitate medical visas in urgent cases.”
According to Trivedi, visa applications will initially be accepted through Indian Visa Application Centers in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna.
He added that the service would gradually be expanded to other Indian visa centers across Bangladesh.
