The counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly elections is currently underway. According to the latest reports, the BJP is leading in 193 seats, while the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is ahead in only 94.
Despite being behind, the TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee is neither frustrated nor afraid. She has urged her supporters to remain courageous.
In a video message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday afternoon, the Trinamool leader stated:
"Please do not leave the polling areas. This is a plan by the BJP. I have been saying since yesterday that they will show their numbers first and ours later. In many places, after two or three rounds of counting, the process has been stopped in nearly 100 locations".
Mamata alleged that the Central Forces are being used to harass the Trinamool Congress and that votes have been looted. She claimed that the party is actually leading in 70 to 100 seats that are not being reported, asserting that the public is being fed "fake news". She further alleged that the official responsible for providing these updates was transferred yesterday and that the Election Commission is acting arbitrarily.
Addressing her party members and activists, the TMC leader said: There is no reason to get upset. Victory will belong to the party after sunset. "Wait and see". No one should be afraid; everyone should remain calm.
She added: "We will continue to fight like the cubs of a tiger".
