Gazipur: 107 Detained from Haji Mazar Slum Drug Den

A total of 107 individuals have been detained following a two-day continuous crackdown on the infamous Haji Mazar slum in Tongi, Gazipur.
During the early hours of Wednesday (April 29), Tongi West Police conducted a raid and detained 33 individuals on drug-related charges. This follows a major six-hour special operation from Tuesday (April 28) night until dawn, during which 74 others were taken into custody.
According to police, the detainees face various allegations, including drug consumption, drug peddling, theft, and mugging. Significant quantities of narcotics, cash from drug sales, and equipment used in thefts and muggings were seized during the operations.
Arifur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi West Police Station, confirmed Agamir Somoy that 33 people were detained in the latest raid ending Wednesday morning, following the 74 detained on Tuesday night. Legal proceedings have been initiated against all those held.
Local residents noted that the Haji Mazar slum has long been known as a central hub for drug peddling. They expressed hope that regular operations of this nature would help reduce criminal activities in the area.
Police officials said such drives will continue as part of their efforts to eliminate drugs and crime.
