Seven Arrested from Tofail Ahmed’s Janaza

The first janaza of veteran political leader Tofail Ahmed was held at Takwa Mosque in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Police arrested seven people from the venue on charges of attempting to bring out a procession after janaza. They were detained from the funeral site following Maghrib prayers on Monday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SM Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter. He said that some party activists attempted to bring out a procession after Tofail Ahmed’s funeral prayer. Police immediately arrested seven individuals at the scene. He added that they are being interrogated and further legal action will be taken if others are found involved.
Tofail Ahmed died at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the capital. He was 82 years old. His second funeral prayer is scheduled to be held in his home district of Bhola on Tuesday, followed by burial.
Family sources said that after the funeral in Dhaka, his body will be kept at the mortuary of Square Hospital. On Tuesday morning, the body will be transported to Bhola by helicopter. After the second funeral prayer at Bhola Zilla School ground after Zuhr prayers, he will be buried beside his parents’ graves at his ancestral home.
The veteran politician had long been suffering from paralysis and other age-related complications. He was admitted to Square Hospital in critical condition on September 28 and had remained on life support there.
