The trial of Muzaffar Hossain, one of the killers of the martyred President Ziaur Rahman, will also be conducted under military law, just as it was for his other associates. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed made this announcement today (Monday).
He made the information public on Monday after inspecting the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka.
The Home Minister said alongside ensuring border security, the role of the BGB in preventing drug smuggling will be further strengthened. Provisions for utilizing dog squads have been included in the new Narcotics Control Act. However, establishing a new dog squad will require time, and until then, the BGB's existing dog squad will be used to support anti-drug operations.
Additionally, the Home Minister highlighted various development projects, including the enhancement of the BGB's administrative infrastructure, increasing hospital capacity, and recruiting doctors and nurses.
He pointed out that these projects are currently awaiting approval of the respective ministries and assured that coordinated initiatives would be taken to implement them swiftly.
