US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have electronically signed a historic memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war of the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Pakistan officially confirmed that the “Islamabad MoU” has taken effect.
According to US officials, the agreement requires Iran to forgo the development or purchase of nuclear weapons, mandates an end to hostilities on all fronts, and ensures the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the inclusion of Lebanon in the diplomatic agreement, Israeli forces have maintained their military operations within the country. Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem praised the accord as a “big victory” and asserted that future negotiations between Lebanon and Israel must focus exclusively on “mutual security”.
Following the signing, Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the media to outline Tehran’s stance. Baghaei emphasized that Iran will track US compliance “without any leniency” and warned that the Islamic Republic will not “fulfil” its own commitments if the US government “evades its obligations”.
While negotiators plan to discuss Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of US sanctions over a 60-day period, Tehran has explicitly removed its missile program from the table. Baghaei said, “Iran’s missiles are only for firing, not for negotiation. Iran’s defence capabilities will not be discussed in any process with any party”.
Regarding regional alliances, Baghaei noted that Iran “does not abandon its friends” and placed the responsibility on Washington to force Israel to respect its commitments. On the issue of nuclear material, the spokesperson clarified that Iran will not transport its highly enriched uranium stockpile out of the country.
Instead, he noted that officials introduced as an option to close the door on other possibilities the dilution of the material.
Moreover, Iran plans to finalize a new management framework for the Strait of Hormuz in collaboration with Oman. Under this new regime, Baghaei stated that Iran will charge fees for services provided within the waterway.
