Phone call of BNP leader allegedly saying ‘I am spending Tk 5 million to become secretary’ goes viral

Ramganj Municipal BNP General Secretary Gias Uddin Palash has allegedly threatened Towhid Hossain Maruf Bhuiyan, president of the Noagaon Union BNP in Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur, saying, “I will not go to Paniwala, and none of you will come to the municipality.”
The threat was allegedly made over a mobile phone following a dispute over being invited as the chief guest at a school event. A portion of the phone conversation has circulated on social media.
In one part of the conversation, BNP leader Gias Uddin Palash can be heard saying, “Monowar is the chief guest, and you have made a banner naming yourself as the special guest. I could not go to the Paniwala school and become the chief guest as the secretary of the municipal BNP. You tell me, who is Palash? What are you doing? Aren’t you disregarding organizational politics, Maruf Bhuiyan? You tell me, who is Palash? If you do not practice organizational politics, how will you lead the union BNP? Why was my name not on the banner as the chief guest? You said, who is Palash? I am saying that I will not go to Paniwala. I am telling you this. None of you will come to the municipality. Why could I not become the chief guest? If Maruf Bhuiyan does not understand organizational politics, then he should not practice it.”
He is also heard saying, “I am the secretary of the municipal BNP, but my name was not on the banner. You tell me, who is Palash? I was elected secretary and spent Tk 5 million to get it. You tell me, who is Palash? You come to Paniwala. We will talk there.”
Asked about the matter, Noagaon Union BNP President Towhid Hossain Maruf Bhuiyan told Agamir Somoy by phone, “The incident is old. Later, after I informed them, senior leaders sat down and resolved the matter. Palash apologized to me.”
Agamir Somoy contacted Ramganj Municipal BNP General Secretary Gias Uddin Palash several times by phone from Tuesday afternoon until evening to seek his comment, but he did not answer the calls.
It may be noted that the Ramganj Municipal BNP conference was held on September 20, 2025. Sheikh Kamrul Islam was elected president and Gias Uddin Palash was elected general secretary through voting at the conference.
