Shahab Uddin

A businessman named Shahab Uddin (65), was hacked to death by assailants in front of his home in Sylhet. The incident took place around 1am early Monday in the Islamabad area under Shahporan (Rah.) Police Station in the city.

Shahab’s home was in Charkhai area of Beanibazar upazila in Sylhet. He ran a consumer goods business at Charkhai Bazar. He had two sons and two daughters. One of his sons lives in France.

Relatives of Shahab said assailants hacked him and left him on the road sometime during the night. Later a local person informed his family members about the incident.

The deceased’s younger son Redwan Ahmed said a person from the area called him at night and told him that several people had detained his father. He later went to the scene and found his father lying on the road in a bloodied condition. There were three machete wounds on his neck. He died on the way to the hospital.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md. Manzurul Alam said the body was sent to the morgue of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital that night. Police are working to uncover the mystery behind the incident.
