22 out of 23 candidates fail at Dakhil Madrasa with 18 teachers

A scenic academic building, an excellent educational environment, 18 teachers, and five staff members—despite all these facilities, Assiya Mohila Dakhil Madrasa in Koyra Upazila, Khulna, suffered a disastrous performance in the 2026 Dakhil examinations.
Although 26 students completed the form fill-up, 23 took the exams. Out of them, only one student passed—securing a GPA-5—while the remaining 22 failed. The pass rate stands at a mere 4.35%.
The dismal outcome has sparked outrage and frustration among locals. They pointed out that while most educational institutions in coastal Koyra operate out of dilapidated buildings yet achieve satisfactory results, it is hard to accept such a failure from a madrasa equipped with modern infrastructure and ample teaching staff.
Local residents said that the madrasa already has a low student count. Had the 18 teachers paid proper attention to their studies, the results would not have been this disastrous. They demanded greater monitoring of teaching quality and increased focus on keeping students engaged in their studies.
"The madrasa principal stays busier with recruitment affairs than with classroom teaching," said several locals, speaking on condition of anonymity.
They alleged controversial appointments at the institution, including the principal's son and the wife of the Upazila Education Office's academic supervisor. Complications surrounding these hirings last year even led to the suspension of staff salaries.
Moulana Rabiul Islam, the assistant principal of the madrasa, declined to comment on the allegations.
Regarding the exam performance, he said, "Our results were very good over the past few years, and we were hopeful for a good outcome this time too. I honestly cannot comprehend how this happened." He confirmed that out of 26 registered students, 23 actually sat for the exams.
Repeated phone calls and WhatsApp messages to the principal, Moulana Mijanur Rahman, for a statement went unanswered.
Koyra Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md. Abul Kalam Azad said, "It is extremely disappointing that only one student passed from an institution. We will review the results to pinpoint where the issues lie and take necessary measures to improve teaching effectiveness and academic standards."
