US President Donald Trump said, "It seems I was the gunman's target at the dinner." The US President made these remarks to reporters during a briefing held at the White House briefing room on Saturday night local time.
During the briefing, Trump was asked whether he was the intended target of the attack. In response, he said, "That is what I believe." The US President claimed that the suspect who opened fire during the dinner at the Washington Hilton Hotel possessed multiple weapons.
The shooting occured during a dinner party organised for the White House Correspondents at Washington DC Hilton Hotel.
Citing law enforcement agencies, Trump said officials believe the attacker acted alone. The US politician, who was previously shot at a campaign rally, speculated that he does not believe this shooting incident is related to a war against Iran.
According to Trump, the suspect was a potential assassin. He noted that several very brave members of the US Secret Service apprehended the suspect.
