Floodwater Remains Trapped Despite Canals, Sluice Gates
Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram comprises 212 villages. The only drainage route for these villages is the 32-kilometer Jalkadar Canal, which runs through the middle of the upazila. A total of 246 sluice gates have been built along the canal and its connected waterways. Of them, only 89 are authorized.
