Local
Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been finalized as the party’s
candidate for the presidency.
The decision
to nominate Fakhrul was finalized during a meeting of the standing committee held
at the Secretariat on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister
and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
He has
also resigned from his posts as BNP secretary general and member of the
party’s Standing Committee.
