BNP finalizes Fakhrul for presidency

Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been finalized as the party’s candidate for the presidency.
The decision to nominate Fakhrul was finalized during a meeting of the standing committee held at the Secretariat on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
He has also resigned from his posts as BNP secretary general and member of the party’s Standing Committee.
Meeting sources said Fakhrul will submit his nomination paper as the BNP’s presidential candidate after noon.
According to the schedule, voting will take place on 20 August from 2 pm to 5 pm in the National Parliament. 13 August is the final day for filing nomination papers for the election.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on 16 August, while the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is 18 August.
