Mushfiqur Rahim has won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for May, in recognition of his outstanding batting performance in the home Test series against Pakistan.
The former Bangladesh captain beat teammate Taijul Islam and Nepal all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee to claim the award. The 39-year-old wicketkeeper-batter had previously won the honor in May 2021.
In the Pakistan series, Rahim finished as the Player of the Series, scoring 235 runs across two Tests at an average of 63.25. His innings of 71 in the first Test in Dhaka and 137 in the second Test in Sylhet played a decisive role in Bangladesh’s victory. Having made his Test debut in 2005, Rahim continues to show a strong appetite for runs even at this stage of his career.
Reacting to the award, Rahim said, “It is a great honor to once again be named ICC Men’s Player of the Month, especially for my performances in Test cricket. I am particularly pleased that this recognition comes for my contributions in Tests. Taijul also played a key role in our memorable series win against Pakistan. This victory also helped improve our position in the ICC World Test Championship points table, making the achievement even more meaningful.”
In the women’s category, England fast bowler Lauren Bell won the award for her consistent performances in white-ball series against India and New Zealand.
Winners were selected through votes cast by global fans registered on ICC.com, along with a panel of former international players and media representatives.
