Tanjid Hasan Tamim’s explosive half-century and Najmul Hossain Shanto’s steady fifty guided Bangladesh to a 6-wicket win over New Zealand, bringing the series to a 1-1 deadlock. Despite the victory, the team’s batting vulnerabilities remained evident, as four of the seven batters who took the crease were dismissed for single-digit scores. Nevertheless, the win provides much-needed relief for the Tigers.
Unlike the first match, the Kiwis failed to set a target in the 250-range. Had they done so, the Bangladeshi batters might have faced a much tougher test. Nahid Rana’s fiery spell tormented the New Zealand lineup, restricting them to a modest total of 198 runs.
The run chase began with a familiar top-order collapse. Mohammad Saif Hassan fell for 8 off 6 balls, while Soumya Sarkar, returning to the side, managed only 8 off 11. With the team struggling at 21/2, Tanjid Hasan Tamim took charge. Despite an early hand injury that caused visible discomfort, he settled in and shifted into a T20 gear to notch his fifth ODI half-century.
Tamim’s aggressive 76-run knock came off just 58 deliveries, featuring four sixes and ten boundaries at a strike rate of 131. His dominance at one end allowed Shanto to play a more patient, cautious game. Shanto eventually reached 50 off 71 balls—his 10th ODI fifty—before leaving the field retired heart. The duo shared a vital 120-run partnership.
In his 100th ODI, Litton Das failed to make an impact, throwing his wicket away for 7 runs off 11 balls while attempting a big shot. Ultimately, Towhid Hridoy’s unbeaten 30 off 31 balls ensured Bangladesh reached the target safely.
