Myanmar ambassador says
Initiative to launch direct flights between Yangon and Bangladesh

Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh Kyaw Soe Moe has said that an initiative has been taken to launch direct flights between Yangon and Bangladesh. He also said Myanmar is working to increase cross border trade and resume direct maritime connectivity between Chattogram Port and Myanmar’s Yangon and Sittwe ports.
He made the remarks at an exchange meeting with Chattogram Chamber and local business leaders at the Chattogram World Trade Center conference hall on Wednesday afternoon.
Speaking as the chief guest, the ambassador said an LNG hub is being developed in Myanmar with assistance from Russia and a hydropower project has been undertaken. Bangladesh will be able to easily import LNG and electricity from Myanmar to address its energy crisis.
He said the discussions on the China Bangladesh Economic Corridor during Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to China would further strengthen relations between the two countries if implemented.
At the meeting, Chattogram Chamber President Mohammad Amirul Haque said, “There is no alternative to coastal shipping, road connectivity and direct flights between the two countries to increase trade and investment. The government has undertaken a mega project for Chattogram airport to turn Chattogram into an emerging aviation and investment hub in the region. If implemented, it will increase connectivity with Yangon. Besides, if the Bangladesh Myanmar China Economic Corridor is implemented in the future, global trade will expand.”
Chamber Senior Vice President Md Amzad Hossain Chowdhury, former Chamber President Engineer Ali Ahmed, former Senior Vice President M A Salam, former Director S M Abu Tayeb, Myanmar Embassy Counsellor Htet Myat Lwin, Honorary Consul General A H M Hakim Ali, Chamber Director Aman Ullah Al Chagir (Chuttu), Mohammad Akter Parvez, Engineer Md Golam Sarwar, CSE Director Major (retd) Emdadul Islam, Nautica Chairman Captain Shafique Bhuiyan, Pan Marine Lines Managing Director Mohammad Aslam and other business leaders also spoke at the meeting.
