Turnover exceeds Tk 590 crore amid index decline

Trading on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended with a downward trend on Tuesday (8 September), the third working day of the week. Although the share prices of most companies declined, the total turnover increased compared to the previous working day.

The DSE's benchmark index, DSEX, fell by 28.10 points to settle at 5,539 points. The Shariah-based index, DSES, dropped 5 points to 1,109 points, and the DS-30 index, comprising 30 selected companies, declined by 5.65 points to 2,108 points.

On the day, shares and units of 396 companies were traded. Of these, 83 advanced, 252 declined, and 61 remained unchanged. Turnover rose to Tk 590 crore 43 lakh 79 thousand, up from Tk 571 crore 32 lakh 46 thousand the previous day.

At the top of the turnover list was Envoy Textiles Limited, with shares worth Tk 27 crore 62 lakh 54 thousand changing hands. In second place, Malek Spinning Mills PLC saw turnover of Tk 25 crore 9 lakh 12 thousand, and Sharp Industries PLC ranked third with Tk 22 crore 86 lakh 84 thousand in trades. Other companies in the top turnover list included IPDC Finance, Sayham Cotton Mills, Beximco Pharma, Sayham Textile, Daffodil Computers, Reliance Insurance PLC, and Bangladesh National Insurance Company Limited.

Topping the gainers' list was Sunlife Insurance Company Limited, whose share price rose by Tk 3, or 6.33 percent, from the previous day. GQ Ball Pen Industries Limited came second with a 5.45 percent price increase, and Evoy Textiles Limited ranked third with a 5.10 percent rise.

Other companies in the top ten gainers included Ha‑Owa Well Textiles, IPDC Finance, Mercantile Islamic Insurance, Phoenix Finance First Mutual Fund, IFIL Islamic First Mutual Fund, Matin Spinning Mills PLC, and ICB AMCL Sonali Bank Ltd. First Mutual Fund.

On the other hand, Sayham Textile Mills Limited topped the losers' list, with its share price dropping by Tk 3.01, or 9.75 percent. Reliance One the First Scheme of Reliance Insurance Mutual Fund ranked second, losing 7.38 percent, and Malek Spinning Mills PLC fell to third with a 7.27 percent decline.

Other companies in the top ten losers included Sharp Industries, Sayham Cotton Mills, Fareast Knitting & Dyeing Industries, Far Chemical Industries, Unlima Yarn Dyeing, Desh Garments, and Prime Textile Spinning Mills Limited.
