The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised the price of furnace oil.
Under the new decision, the price per liter has been set at Tk 113.54, up by Tk 18.85 from Tk 94.69.
BERC announced the development in a notice on Monday, saying the new price will take effect from midnight today.
The notice said the price adjustment reflects changes in the FOB price of crude oil for May and fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate for refined furnace oil imported between April 13 and May 12. BERC had earlier formed a committee on March 15 to review price adjustments.
Previously, on April 12, the price of furnace oil was increased by Tk 24 to Tk 94.69 per liter from Tk 70.10.
A significant portion of imported furnace oil is used in electricity generation. Relevant stakeholders said the price hike is likely to have an impact on electricity tariffs.
