Jubo Dal leader killed over dispute over water development board land

Law enforcement agencies have arrested Touhid, the prime accused in the hacking death of Jubo Dal leader Md. Abu Kawsar in Cumilla, and his brother Tanzir.

Late Friday night, the District Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Touhid from the Nurpur area of the city. On the same day, SRB arrested Tanzir from Brahmanbaria.

Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md. Anisuzzaman and SRB 11 Company Commander Major Sadman Ibn Alam shared the information at a joint press conference on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police Md. Anisuzzaman said the disputed land belongs to the Water Development Board. According to arrested suspect Touhid, when they took the initiative to build a resort on the land, Shamim and his friend Abu Kawsar would oppose the plan. This led to a dispute between them.

A meeting was scheduled for Friday to resolve the dispute. However, Touhid, his brother and their associates launched a preplanned attack there.

SRB 11 Company Commander Major Sadman Ibn Alam said, “Tanzir was arrested while in hiding in Brahmanbaria.”
