160-million-taka worth of gold found in shoes of two flight crew members at Shahjalal

A total of 9.34 kilograms of gold has been recovered from inside the shoes of two flight crew members on the runway of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) seized the gold on Sunday. The estimated market value of the seized gold is 162.5 million taka.
CIID officials said they recovered a total of 80 gold bars. Each bar weighed approximately 117 grams. The combined weight of the 80 gold bars was 9.34 kilograms.
The gold bars were concealed in a special way inside the shoes of two flight crew members of Emirates Airlines flight EK0582, which arrived from Dubai.
Acting on a tip-off, officials of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) took position at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The two flight crew members of Emirates Airlines flight EK0582 were searched on the runway after arriving from Dubai. The gold bars were found concealed inside their shoes.
An investigation is underway into the method of smuggling the gold by hiding the bars inside the shoes of flight crew members. CIID officials said they are investigating who was involved, where the gold came from and who it was supposed to be delivered to.
