Summit Group has said its floating LNG terminal, in Maheshkhali is fully operational and ready for gas regasification.

In a statement on Friday, Summit said a new LNG cargo is expected to arrive at its terminal by the evening. This could improve gas supply. However, for the overall national grid to return to normal, Excelerate’s terminal will also need to return to full capacity, which is expected to take several more days.

Summit said an LNG cargo vessel could not be connected to the terminal because of rough seas, disrupting gas supply from the terminal even though Summit’s terminal remained operational. As a result, gas supply to the national grid on Thursday fell to less than half of demand. Against daily demand of about 3.8 billion cubic feet, supply stood at around 1.9 billion cubic feet.

Petrobangla sources said that although the replacement of the damaged cable at Excelerate’s terminal has been completed, another 48 to 72 hours will be required to synchronize the second boiler at full capacity.

According to instructions from the Energy Division, a decision has currently been made to first restore Summit to full supply capacity. If demand falls somewhat, Excelerate’s terminal will be temporarily shut down for repairs.
