EC schedules Thakurgaon-1 by-election for 29 Oct

Election Commission (EC) announced that the voting in the by-election for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, vacated by President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will take place on 29 October.
EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the matter on Thursday. According to the announced schedule, the last day for submitting nomination papers is 27 September, scrutiny will take place on 29 September, and the final date for withdrawing candidacy is 7 October. It will allocate election symbols on 8 October.
He said voting will take place from 8 am to 4 pm on 29 October. Thakurgaon District Election Officer will perform the duties of the returning officer.
Discussions about potential BNP candidates include Fakhrul’s younger brother, Mirza Faysal Amin, who previously served as mayor of Thakurgaon Municipality. The name of Fakhrul’s elder daughter, Shamaruh Mirza, is also under discussion.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami announced its previous candidate, Delawar Hossain, for the by-election as well.
