PM Orders Faster Reopening of State Owned Factories

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed officials to expedite the process of reopening loss-making and shuttered state-owned industrial factories through domestic and foreign investment.
The directive came during a meeting held Saturday at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon to review the progress of efforts to revive the state-owned industrial facilities.
The information was confirmed by Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.
Officials at the meeting said a number of private companies have expressed interest in investing in the factories. The government will now assess the feasibility of the industrial projects proposed by the interested firms.
The prime minister emphasized that the entire process must be carried out transparently while avoiding unnecessary delays and ensuring its swift completion.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was attended by Commerce, Industries, and Jute and Textiles Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir; State Minister for Jute and Textiles Shariful Alam; Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir; Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury; Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A.B.M. Abdus Sattar; secretaries from the relevant ministries; and senior officials from agencies under the Ministry of Industries.
