Dengue claims 36 lives in one month, 9,206 infected

Dengue cases surged in July. A total of 36 people died from dengue this month, while 9,206 patients were hospitalized.
According to data from the Directorate General of Health Services, one person died of dengue in the past 24 hours, from 8 pm Thursday to 8 am Friday. With this, the death toll for the current month has reached 36. The total number of dengue deaths this year has risen to 54.
In the past 24 hours, 153 people were diagnosed with dengue. With this, the total number of dengue cases reported this year has reached 15,310.
Meanwhile, July recorded the highest number of dengue cases and deaths this year. Before that, two people died of dengue each in January and February. One person died in May, while 13 died in June. The Directorate General of Health Services reported no dengue related deaths in March and April.
In addition, 9,206 dengue cases were reported this month. In the previous month, June, 2,907 people were infected with dengue. Meanwhile, 1,081 cases were reported in January, 409 in February, 353 in March, 640 in April and 714 in May.
Relevant authorities have said the dengue outbreak could intensify further in August.
