780 children die from measles, related symptoms so far

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said one more child died with measles-related symptoms in the 24 hours from 8 am Thursday to 8 am Friday. Since March 15, a total of 780 children have died from confirmed measles and measles-related symptoms across Bangladesh, according to the DGHS. The agency released the information in its regular press statement on Friday.
The DGHS said the child who died in the past 24 hours had symptoms consistent with measles. It reported no confirmed measles deaths during the period.
According to DGHS data, 685 children have died with measles-related symptoms since March 15. Another 95 children have died after contracting confirmed measles during the same period, bringing the total death toll from confirmed measles and measles-related symptoms to 780.
Health authorities confirmed 140 new measles cases over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed infections to 14,244.
During the same period, another 873 people developed measles-related symptoms. Since March 15, the total number of people who have developed measles-related symptoms has reached 116,011.
Since March 15, hospitals have admitted 98,600 people with measles-related symptoms. Of them, 95,031 have recovered and been discharged.
