RAB arrests Monowar Hasan, also known as Ledu Hasan
RAB 2 has arrested Monowar Hasan, also known as Ledu Hasan, one of the key accused in the murder case of Abul Bashar Badsha, general secretary of the Nobodoy Housing Unit BNP in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. He was arrested during a raid in the Mohammadia Housing Society area of Mohammadpur.
Ledu, who was arrested, had served as joint convener of Adabor Thana BNP. He was expelled from the party twice on charges of activities against the organization.
The information was disclosed by Additional DIG of RAB 2 Naymul Hasan at a press conference held at the RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar in the capital.
He said, “He was arrested during an operation conducted Tuesday night based on secret information. Ledu has a total of 32 cases filed against him at different police stations in the capital, including murder, illegal arms, drugs, and extortion.”
The RAB official said that on July 1, Abul Bashar Badsha, general secretary of the Nobodoy Housing Unit BNP, was stabbed to death during a clash over watching a World Cup football match between Japan and Brazil in the Nobodoy Housing area under Adabor Police Station in the capital. Ledu is one of the main accused in that murder case. Statements given under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure by several arrested suspects in the case revealed that Ledu had supplied the weapon used in the killing to the main attacker, Parvez.
RAB said that verification through PCPR found that Ledu has multiple cases filed against him at Mohammadpur, Adabor, and Darus Salam police stations under the Special Powers Act, the Explosive Substances Act, as well as cases involving murder, attempted murder, illegal arms, and the Anti Terrorism Act. He was also arrested as a named accused in the widely discussed Wahiduzzaman murder case in 2010 and remained in prison until 2012. In addition, RAB 4 arrested him in 2021 with a foreign made pistol, a magazine, and ammunition. He has also been sentenced to 10 years in prison in an arms case.
RAB further said that local residents had long accused Ledu of extortion, terrorist activities, and patronizing juvenile gangs. The agency has urged victims to take the necessary legal action regarding those allegations.
