Bus fare hike notification issued, minimum fare unchanged

The Road Transport and Highways Division under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has issued a notification increasing bus fares. The minimum fares in Dhaka and Chattogram have remained unchanged at Tk 10 and Tk 8 respectively.
The notification was issued on Wednesday.
According to the notification, the fare for buses operating in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas has been set at Tk 2.70 per passenger per kilometer instead of Tk 2.50 as fixed in the notification issued on April 23, 2026. For buses and minibuses operating on inter district and long-distance routes, the fare has been set at Tk 2.40 per passenger per kilometer instead of Tk 2.30.
It also said the fare for minibuses operating in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas and buses and minibuses operating within the areas under the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), including Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Manikganj and Dhaka districts, has been set at Tk 2.60 per passenger per kilometer instead of Tk 2.40.
The notification said the minimum fares for buses and minibuses operating in metropolitan areas have remained unchanged at Tk 10 and Tk 8 respectively.
According to the notification, if the number of seats in a bus or minibus is reduced and the seats are rearranged for passenger services with approval from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), the prescribed fare must also be revised proportionately. In such cases, the route permit approving authority, BRTA and the Passenger and Goods Transport Committee must approve the fare rates proportionately.
The notification said the revised fare rates will not apply to gas powered buses and minibuses. It also said the new fare rates must be displayed at visible locations on every bus and minibus.
The notification also said all previously issued notifications and orders related to fixing fares for diesel powered buses and minibuses have been repealed.
