Sohel excluded from gazette despite ranking first in education cadre

Sohel Rana, a student of the University of Dhaka, ranked first in the education cadre in the 49th BCS examination. However, he was excluded from the gazette published on Wednesday, September 30.

The gazette list shows that Sohel Rana, who ranked first on the merit list, is not included. Khairunnahar Khanam, who ranked second, appears first on the list.

After the gazette was published, Sohel wrote in a Facebook post, “Thank you, Bangladesh, for depriving me of the gazette despite ranking first in the education cadre of the 49th BCS.”

People acquainted with Sohel expressed anger over his name being absent from the list.

In a Facebook post, Sohel’s university classmate Zainal Abedin Imran wrote, “My name has appeared in the gazette, but unfortunately the gazette for my two friends from the department, Sohel and Zubayer, has not appeared. This is in no way desirable in the new Bangladesh. I hope the government will reconsider.”

Several attempts were made to contact Sohel regarding the matter but his comments could not be obtained.
