US President Donald Trump has arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
This marks the first visit by a sitting US president to China in nearly nine years. The trip is drawing close global attention amid widespread economic uncertainty and rising geopolitical tensions. Among the key concerns is the standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, which has intensified in the context of the US-Israel war involving Iran, pushing up energy costs and threatening global food security.
There is also strong international interest in whether the world’s two largest economies can find ways to stabilize ties amid escalating trade tensions and technological rivalry. This competition includes sanctions and China’s recent countermeasures restricting enforcement of certain US-imposed measures.
