Much progress' made in talks with Iran: Trump

US President Donald Trump. Reuters.

US President Donald Trump has said that much progress has been made in talks with Iran. Trump claimed that Tehran is interested in making a deal. He also said that US forces recently destroyed an Iranian air defense system.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump said, "We are now talking to them (Iran). They want to make a deal."

"We have made a lot of progress," Trump added. However, the US president did not elaborate on what kind of progress had been made.

Even on this day, Trump was unwilling to call the conflict with Iran a "war." He described it as the United States imposing "the biggest blockade in military history" against Iran.

Trump said, "We are not at war." Comparing the situation to the Russia-Ukraine war, Trump claimed that no American soldiers had been killed in seven months. However, he acknowledged that US forces had carried out attacks on Iranian military equipment.

Without saying when and where the attack was carried out, Trump said, "They (Iran) had built a small anti-aircraft device. We destroyed it within 15 minutes."

Meanwhile, Iran's state news agency IRNA reported that two missiles struck Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. However, the country's semi-official news outlets reported that the attack caused no casualties. It could not be confirmed whether Trump was referring to this attack.

Meanwhile, Iran's military has announced that it will not allow the reconstruction of destroyed US bases in the Middle East. They claimed that US forces suffered extensive damage in the war.

Army spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia said that more than 228 locations or facilities at US bases across the region have been severely damaged or destroyed.

He claimed that no US base in the region has the capability to conduct military operations. He said, "We will no longer allow enemy bases to be rebuilt in this region."
