Vote counting is underway across all 234 constituencies of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The ruling Congress and Left-backed DMK alliance is leading in 56 seats.

Meanwhile, the ADMK is ahead in 72 seats.

Actor Thalapathy Vijay's newly formed party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is leading in 80 seats. It is believed that the contest may ultimately develop into a three-way fight.
