Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has taken up a new role at the University of Oxford in England. The university announced on Friday that Trudeau has joined its Blavatnik School of Government as a Distinguished Fellow. He has also become a member of the World Leaders Circle.
According to the University of Oxford, the World Leaders Circle is an international network of former heads of government. Their experience and insights help shape the Blavatnik School’s work to improve governance around the world.
Trudeau served as Canada’s prime minister for 10 consecutive years before stepping down in 2025.
In a statement released by the University of Oxford, Trudeau said, “During my decade as prime minister, the world underwent profound geopolitical and technological changes. These changes have fundamentally reshaped our world.”
He said, “From a changing global order to the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the challenges facing governments around the world require thoughtful leadership, international cooperation and a renewed commitment to restoring public trust in our democratic institutions.”
Trudeau said, “I look forward to drawing on my experience, exchanging ideas with other leaders and engaging with the next generation of leaders working in government and policymaking as we explore how governments can adapt to change and build a more hopeful, inclusive and prosperous future for everyone.”
Other members of the World Leaders Circle include former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The university said that as a World Leaders Fellow, Trudeau will mentor and engage with students and alumni. He will also bring together leaders from around the world and work on innovative approaches to governance.
The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world.
Last September, Trudeau launched a production company called Hope and Hard Work with his former chief of staff, Katie Telford.
The company said it would produce both scripted and unscripted content.
