Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has remarked that the decision regarding peace talks with Iran is now in the United States' hands. He stated that Iran's primary consideration in negotiations will be the US's actual actions rather than its words.
Speaking at a weekly press conference, Baghaei said that over the past two years, the United States has not only failed to take diplomatic initiatives but has also obstructed the diplomatic process. He said, "The ball is now in America's court. Iran's demands are completely clear and legitimate."
Baghaei further said no agreement will be reached until the US lifts its naval blockade and fully accepts Iran's legitimate demands. Similarly, it will not be possible to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or ensure security there.
Meanwhile, Baghaei said that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi recently visited Qatar and conveyed a message to the United States. He also said that messages are being exchanged between the two countries through Qatar's mediation. However, he warned that unilateral security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz cannot be established unless the economic blockade is lifted and commitments are honored.
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump has said that Washington can "shut Iran down at any time." At an election rally in Kansas, he claimed that the United States has established dominance over Iran.
At another rally in Iowa, Trump said the war against Iran is not yet over. He said he is trying to avoid casualties, but at some point Iran will have to be dealt a "severe blow." He also claimed that Iran's nuclear enrichment capability has been completely destroyed.
At the press conference, Baghaei also criticized Israel's attacks on Gaza and Lebanon. He alleged that Israel is the root cause of instability in West Asia. He also commented that with winter approaching, obstacles to the entry of essential goods for displaced people have made the situation catastrophic.
Baghaei also claimed that the United States is under intense pressure due to the International Criminal Court's actions against Israeli officials.
