The government of Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshis in the holy city of Mecca. They were given this punishment on charges of immoral acts inside a mosque.

The country's Ministry of Interior said the sentence was carried out on Wednesday, in the holy city of Mecca.

The two Bangladeshis who received the death penalty are Nazerul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar.

According to Saudi authorities, the court verdict proved that they were involved in immoral acts inside the mosque.

According to a statement from the country's Ministry of Interior, security forces arrested the two Bangladeshis after the incident. After the investigation, formal charges were brought against them.

Later, the case was sent to the relevant court. The court found them guilty and sentenced them to death.

The ministry's statement said the punishment was given considering the violation of the sanctity of the place, nature of crime and time.

The Ministry of Interior said the government is committed to maintaining the country's security, establishing justice, and enforcing Islamic law.

The statement further said that if anyone tries to repeat such crimes, any person involved will have to face the law.

However, the statement from the Saudi Ministry of Interior did not provide details about what kind of acts they were accused of for which they were sentenced to death.
