Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that 'Moscow will burn' if Russian attacks on Ukraine continue. He made the remarks on Thursday, saying recent Ukrainian drone strikes were a response to an attack on a historic monastery in Kyiv earlier this week.
Dozens of drones targeted Moscow overnight, striking the Russian capital for a second time this week and hitting an oil refinery, according to reports.
In a voice message shared in a WhatsApp group with journalists, Zelenskyy said, “We do not want this war, we never wanted it. Everyone knows that, including our partners.”
His warning added, “But if Ukraine burns, then your Moscow will burn too.”
On Monday, Russian drone and missile strikes across Ukraine killed at least 10 people. The attacks also damaged the centuries-old Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery.
Zelenskyy is expected to attend a meeting of Ukraine’s military allies in Brussels on Thursday, where discussions will focus on additional air defense systems under NATO programs and the development of a joint anti-ballistic missile defense system with Ukraine and its partners.
He also called on Europe and the United States to increase pressure on Russia through tougher sanctions on its defense industry, energy sector, and broader economy, arguing this could force President Vladimir Putin to end the war.
“Everyone must put pressure on Putin,” Zelenskyy said. “Ukrainians, all Europeans, Americans, and Russians as well. It is time to recognize reality and pressure their leader.”
