US President Donald Trump on Monday criticised Yemen’s Houthi rebels over their escalating attacks on Saudi Arabia, describing the group as “misbehaving very badly” and warning that Washington was considering its response.

Asked whether the attacks were intensifying in connection with the US midterm elections, Trump said, “I don’t know how it affects the election. I don’t take that into account.”

He added, “I just know Iran will never have a nuclear weapon... They’re never going to have a nuclear weapon. But the Houthis are misbehaving.”

Trump’s remarks came amid a series of attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, including strikes involving King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. He had earlier said Washington would consider joining Saudi Arabia in military operations against the Houthis following the latest attack on King Khalid International Airport.

“We just found out about the recent attack. We’ll make a decision,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Saturday. “We’re going to take a look.”

Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition said on Tuesday that it had intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi militia towards the Khamis Mushait airbase in Saudi Arabia.

Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki announced the interception in a post on X. Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence agency had urged residents of Khamis Mushait to remain vigilant before later confirming that the danger had passed.

The latest developments followed an attack on King Khalid International Airport on October 10 that killed 13 people, including an Indian national, and injured hundreds. Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation initially reported 12 deaths and 309 injuries. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh later confirmed the death of an Indian national who had been injured in the attack.

Earlier attacks on King Khalid International Airport and Abha International Airport on October 6 and 7 killed three people and injured 36, according to the aviation authority.
