More than 21,500 children have been killed in Gaza since the war began, including 1,022 newborns, according to the Gaza Government Media Office. The conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, reached its 1,000th day on Wednesday.
International organizations continue to warn of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the rising civilian death toll.
According to figures released by the Gaza Government Media Office, the total number of Palestinians killed has risen to 73,066, while 173,514 others have been injured. More than 44,500 children are among the wounded.
The office also said nearly 9,500 Palestinians remain missing and are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
It added that more than 90% of buildings across the Gaza Strip have been damaged or completely destroyed. According to its assessment, about 80% of the territory is now under Israeli control.
Meanwhile, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said more than 11,000 children have suffered severe injuries with life-altering consequences. Nearly 4,000 of them have undergone amputations.
UNICEF said many of those surgeries were performed under extremely difficult medical conditions, highlighting the ongoing collapse of Gaza’s health care system.
