Abu Hanif, spokesperson for the Gono Odhikar Parishad, has demanded the arrest of former President Md. Shahabuddin, who stepped down earlier today. He made the demand in a social media post on Friday shortly after the president resigned.
In his post, Abu Hanif said, “The president of the fallen Awami League, Shahabuddin Chuppu, contacted fugitive killer Hasina from abroad while he was there for medical treatment. There is no room to take this communication lightly. Rather, this phone conversation is deeply connected to Hasina’s announcement that she will return to the country in December. And India is putting all the mechanisms in place there.”
He said that the recent remarks by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Hasina’s announcement that she would return to the country in December, and the phone conversation involving Awami League President Shahabuddin Chuppu are all linked. According to him, the phone conversation with Hasina while abroad appears to be part of an anti state conspiracy.
“Apparently realizing the situation, President Shahabuddin Chuppu resigned today. I demand the arrest of Shahabuddin Chuppu, the president of the Awami League, whose activities have been banned,” he added.
